Police Arrest One Legged Disease Spreader.
Police have re-arrested a German national who is suspected of spreading the HIV virus by having sex with young girls in the Chaiyaphum district.
Officials are preparing to deport the man back to his native country. This will have been the second time the man has been deported.
He has confessed that he knows that he has AIDS, but wants to give it to as many people as possible. Thailand currently lacks a law to effectively deal with the situation. |

Fatal Flood.
Four people are confirmed dead today as a result of severe flooding in Nakhon Si Thammarat province. The governor has declared the province a disaster zone.
5 meter waves are impacting the shores of Koh Samui as a result of heavy rain and wind there. |

Vietnam Charges ex-Pop Star.
Vietnam officials have released a report indicating their intentions to charge former pop-star Gary Glitter with engaging in lewd sex acts with a minor.
The maximum penalty he could face is a 12 year incarceration. |

China Confirms another Bird Flu Outbreak.
Top Chinese government agricultural officials have confirmed another case of an outbreak in the northwestern Xinjian region. The outbreak constitutes the seventh outbreak within a 10 day period. |

Heavy Rains for Cumphon.
Heavy rains are expected today for the Chumphon province. The increase of rain is being caused by a low pressure front moving in from the west. The heavy rains and high winds will impact areas south of Chumphon.
It will be cool and fair in Bangkok, with weather warming-up over the weekend. Weather in the North will follow a similar trend.
Today it will be around 21c. |

China: 32 days – 21 outbreaks of Bird Flu.
China confirmed the 21st case of Bird Flu outbreak today. Slightly more than 30 days have elapsed since China first reported a case of Bird Flu back in mid-October 2005. The region is experiencing one of the highest levels of outbreaks to date.
China reports two deaths related to the virus to date. |

Oil Spill Continues to Spread.
Sunday’s oil spill off the coast of Chon Buri threatens to continue to spread farther and wider than anticipated. High winds and weather patterns are contributing factors for the rapid spread of the spill.
Official statements are discounting the seriousness of the spill. It is clear that the spill could impact coral and tourist beaches near the Khang Khao islands. |

Grenade Fatality.
An 11 year-old boy was fatally injured today when he found a grenade on the side of a road near his school in the Chang Mai province.
The boy killed himself and three other classmates when he pulled the detonation pin of the grenade.
Officials are trying to determine ownership and responsibility of the grenade. |

Heavy Rains Continue in South.
The weather in the South of Thailand continues to be unfavorable with heavy rainfall and high winds. The storm pattern is currently moving westward and weather should ease in the South within the next few days.
Bangkok is expected to be cool with temperatures in the low 20’s. |

Government Official’s Body Found.
The decapitated body of a local government official was found Wednesday in Southern Thailand. He is suspected to have been murdered by Islamic militants operating in the area according to a police report. |

Thaksin Speaks Out.
Prime Minister Thaksin indicated to the Thai-Rak-Thai party that he will remain in office until the end of his term in 2009.
He further advised the cabinet to avoid political arguments and problems with oppositional political parties. |

China Suffers from more Bird Flu Cases.
In an almost unrelenting fashion, China issued statements reporting that three more outbreaks of the avian influenza has been discovered in randomly selected birds.
The government has just approved clinical trials of a human vaccine against for treatment of the virus. |

Singapore Arrests 116 Illegal Immigrants.
A 116 people were arrested in Singapore on Wednesday, in what is being called Singapore’s largest single day round-up of illegal immigrants.
Singapore immigration officials conducted the raid in the early morning hours and was lead by Singapore’s Immigration and Checkpoints Authority. Two Thai nationals were part of the arrested group.
The Thai embassy in Singapore has not released a statement regarding the raid. |

Bird Flu Resurfaces in Vietnam.
Another case of bird flu surfaced today in Vietnam. A 54 year old man died as a suspected result of the Avian Flu virus. The man was a resident in Ho Chi Minh City and was admitted to the HCMC hospital. Soon after his arrival he developed severe symptoms and died.
Hanoi has been temporarily declared free of the virus. |

Egat Problems Continue.
A large consortium made of consumer organizations demanded that the Thai government drop plans to have Egat publicly listed.
Finance Minister, Thanong Bidaya continues to insist that privatization is the way that Egat should proceed. Many fear that privatization will bring a host of new problems for the organization. |

Taiwan Corruption Charges.
Many top officials including an ex-presidential advisor have been charged with corruption stemming from importing labor from Thailand. Thai works have been increasingly imported into Taiwan to complete mostly hard labor tasks. However, there has been a recent shift in demands for Thai house workers. |

Bangkok Weather Stays Cool.
Weather will remain cooler than normal for the next several days for the Bangkok region. There will be heavy rains for the South, particularly for Surat Thani extending to Narathiwat.
The Gulf of Thailand will have heavy seas for the next couple of days. |

Taiwan Discovers Local Alternatives.
Taiwan made an important discovery into the creation of alternatives to Tamiflu. Tamiflu has recently received sharp criticism for its side-effects.
Tawainese scientists have discovered three local alternatives for some of the key ingredients for producing a bird-flu anti-virus. It is made from Shimikish acid, which is an extract from Ba Jiao in China. This give rise to hopes that alternative forms of treatment and prevention will continue to surface. |

MRTA Experiences Problems.
Daily communters were delayed this morning by a technical problem which halted all MRTA services during the morning hours. The MRTA underground railway systems transports tens-of-thousands of morning commuters each weekday.
The problems were fixed and services have fully resumed. |

Bangkok: Mild and sunny.
Today in the greater Bangkok metro area will be sunny with a very small chance of afternoon showers. The south of Thailand is currently under a heavy storm weather warning. This warning covers all provinces South of Chumphon.
The upper part of Thailand will remain cool and dry - 7 degrees in the Northern mountains. |
